Pacos Tacos

It was Grace's birthday celebrations and our night started with a glass of red at Siglo on an unseasonably nice winter night. What a nice place to admire a full moon and hot people in suits - many a 'young professional' as my mum would say.

Craving some solids, we headed up to Pacos Tacos of Bourke St, near William. I'm loving the latino food explosion - I don't think I had even really had proper mexican food before I moved to Melbourne. Not even one mexican place comes to mind when I think of Perth. Well there might be now but definitely not when I moved. Once unchartered territory, I literally have Mexican at least once a fortnight but I still have some places to try - Mamasita (will I ever get a table?), Bluecorn and Fonda.

Anyway Pacos Tacos is perfect for a later night drink and snack. I think I could live off corn and sangria. Well I could live off THIS corn anyway - is it embarrassing to order corn and then go back and order more corn?

Sorry I Died.

But now I've come back to life! The combination of starting my surgical rotation + crappy weather + no internet connection + basically all my friends evacuating Melbourne have meant that my days are more mundane than insane. But anyway my bro came to visit me this weekend so any coffees were had. Day 1 - Yellow Bird, Market Lane Coffee, and St Ali Coffee at Gramercy Bistro.

We got into the op-shopping spirit and Luke bought these pedophile glasses for $9. What a bargain.

Here's Looking At You Kid

An evening stroll out in the city. This is my new photography thing - go stand opposite your friend and take pictures at the same time. It's so much fun. Of course I am also making a statement about modern society but whatevs... I also fell in love with a busker that night.

+ bonus picture of the jacket. I'm obsessed.

Returning To The City

Had a beautiful weekend getting reacquainted with the city. My time in country is over... oh well not that cut although it was nice to get to know everyone in the town. I didn't realise country towns are actually what they are like in movies - where you just walk around and say hi to everyone. I'll miss being über friendly. Naturally, I'm guessing I will slide back into purposely hiding from people I know when I see them out.

One thing I won't miss is the lack of Japanese food. My Baby! First thing I did driving back was stop at Uzu in Caulfield, one of my favourite cheap japanese cafes and desperately order a chicken katsu don. I then booked a hotel room (the drive was hellish. Like normally a 2 and a half hour drive but with the FLOODING everywhere I had to drive at 60km/hr due to my little slippery car... and it took me nearly 4hrs). So hotel room was warranted because there was no way I was sleeping on someones couch after that shit + packing and moving all my stuff in one afternoon. Ok I'm clearly trying to justify it as not an extravagance... but it clearly is and I love it.

So I had the best night ever with me and tv and a giant fluffy bed and a hotel dressing gown. The katsu don was much better than it looks in the photo... egg is very difficult to make attractive I have realised.

Next day I met up with Tas and went to Café Amalia just off Beatty Ave. The two waiters we had were these funny little french guys who I swear knew everyone and did triple air kisses as they came in. I just loved sitting there watching it. I had a mini bacon and avocado roll (it was second breakfast.. first was  bacon and eggs downstairs at the Blackman. Can't ever have too much bacon) and it was super good but next time I'm going back for the pastries. And the little kid waiter. What? He gives very attentive service.

So now after I have written this blog post I realise all I do is eat. Initiating myself back into Melbourne by eating... local much? Oh Melbourne, how I've missed you!

In The Cellar...

Caught up with some friends at St Jude's Cellars on Brunswick St. It's got a industrial dining hall feel (I realise that makes it sound like Alcatraz) and it's a really cool space. What a nice place to sip on a glass of Spanish tempranillo. We sat at the back table which is surrounded by wine racks. I was in my own little world back there, munching on parsnip chips, northern African flatbread and the charcuterie platter. I think I could get used to dining in a cellar...

Green Day

So lucky to still be getting some sun! I was so excited about going to the Botanical Gardens yesterday that I just had to go today and drag Tas with me! First we got some food at 8 Days Cafe on High Street which was wondrous. We were actually going to walk around the Tan but in classic style we went past Thomas Dux on walking back to our car got croissants and then laid in the grass and did nothing! Perfect Day.
